General Resources

Arolsen Archives

The Arolsen Archives, previously known as the International Tracing Service, is one of the largest databases of Nazi documents from the Holocaust. The archives are constantly being updated as more documents are digitized, however, a request can be made for physical files on an individual as well.

US Holocaust Memorial Museum

The USHMM utilizes the same archival databases as the Arolsen Archives, but typically has a significantly faster response time. When placing a request for personal records, it is best to use the database from the USHMM.

Yad Vashem

The Yad Vashem central database is one of the largest of its kind to contain information regarding the victims of the Holocaust. It contains the names of over 4.8 million victims of the Nazi regime during the Holocaust, along with personal characteristics of the individuals found in the records.

Gedenkbuch Bundesarchiv (Federal Archives)

A Gedenkbuch is a memorial book in German. It is the national database of information related to individuals who were victims of persecution during the Nazi regime, particularly during the Holocaust. This could include details about their names, birthdates, places of origin, and, tragically, information about their fates during the Holocaust.
